Local Quilter Creates Bloomsday Starting Flag for 22nd Year
FAIRFIELD, Wash. - For 22 years, local quilter Chris Mewhinney of Fairfield, Washington, has been a major part of the annual Bloomsday race, but it's a race in which she has never run a step.
Every year, Chris has hand-sewn the starting flag for Bloomsday. Using Don Kardong's design, Chris brings that design to life with fabric. After the race, the flag is given to one of the corporate sponsors to display at their business.
See this year's contribution from Chris in person during the race, May 5, 2009.
