SPOKANE, Wash. - Confessed killer Shellye Stark, who gunned down her estranged husband and unsuccessfully argued that it was in self defense, was ordered today to serve nearly 51 years in prison.

Spokane County Superior Court Judge Tari Eitzen denied Stark's request for a new trial and ordered the 47-year-old woman to spend the next 610 months behind bars.

After she was convicted of first-degree murder and conspiracy to commit murder by a jury last month, Stark fired her attorneys, Russell Bradshaw and Bryan Whitaker, and hired longtime Spokane criminal defense lawyer Julie Twyford.

Twyford was asking Eitzen for a new trial, with Stark claiming she was off her medications in jail and that Bradshaw and Whitaker made her testify anyway. Read the rest at Spokesman.com.
