Deer Park man dies in tractor accident

DEER PARK, Wash,- A Deer Park man died shortly after 5 p.m. Friday when the tractor he was working on unexpectedly started and drove over him before crashing through a door and riving off into a field. Identity of the 67-year-old victim is being withheld pending release by the Spokane County Medical Examiner's Office. However, his family was present at the scene and is aware of his death.

According to Sgt. Bob Christilaw, the man was working on the old fixed-throttle farm tractor at his home in the 29200 block of Spotted Road when the accident occurred. The victim had been unable to start machine and was underneath it when it suddenly started and drove over his chest.

The tractor crashed through a closed shop door and drove into a field where it eventually made an abrupt turn and then rammed through a corral before crashing into a large tree.

Paramedics were called to the scene, but the victim died in the ambulance. An autopsy is expected to determine exact cause of death.
