Deer Park man killed in tractor accident identified

DEER PARK, Wash. - The Spokane Sheriff's Office has identified the Deer Park man killed Friday afternoon when he was caught beneath his tractor as 67-year-old Arthur Harper.

Harper died shortly after 5:00 Friday when the tractor he was working on unexpectedly started and drove over him before crashing through a door and riving off into a field. Harper's family was present at the scene at the time of his death.

According to Sgt. Bob Christilaw, the Harper was working on the old fixed-throttle farm tractor at his home in the 29200 block of Spotted Road when the accident occurred. Harper had been unable to start machine and was underneath it when it suddenly started and drove over his chest.

The tractor crashed through a closed shop door and drove into a field where it eventually made an abrupt turn and then rammed through a corral before crashing into a large tree.

Paramedics were called to the scene, but Harper died in the ambulance.
