Deadly collision on I-90 involving moose

SPOKANE COUNTY, Wash. - A 19-year-old woman from Spokane Valley was killed just before 9:30 p.m. Wednesday while standing in the median of Interstate 90 near the stateline following a crash involving several vehicles and a moose.

The Washington State Patrol says that Alexandra E. Phillips was driving eastbound on I-90 when she crashed into a moose standing in the middle of the highway. Two other vehicles had already hit the moose and were stopped on the roadway when Phillips crashed.

When she hit the animal her vehicle veered left and ended up in the median between the eastbound and westbound lanes of the highway. The Washington State Patrol says that at some point she got out of her car and was hit by a fourth vehicle which had crashed into the moose while she was standing in the median.

WSP investigators say that 24-year-old Lindsay E. Carr of Spokane Valley was driving her pickup truck in the eastbound lanes when she hit the moose then slammed into Phillips and her car in the median killing Phillips. She was declared deceased at the scene of the crash.

Carr along with the two other drivers involved in the crash were not injured in the crash. The Washington State Patrol says that no charges will be filed at this time for the crash.

Traffic eastbound and westbound on Interstate 90 was diverted off the freeway at the State Line and onto the off ramps and on ramps to detour around the the collisions for about three hours and reopened early Thursday morning.
