Pelosi accuses CIA of misleading Congress on torture

WASHINGTON. - In a move that's raised the heat in the battle over Bush administration's use of what some call torture, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi Thursday denied that she was informed about waterboarding and accused the CIA of misleading Congress.

Firing back at critics calling her complicit in torture, Pelosi says the CIA briefed her only once on the issue, a year after 9/11.

"The only mention of waterboarding was that it was not being employed," she said.

Now Pelosi knows that Al Qaeda suspect Abu Zubaida had been waterboarded 83 times a month before her briefing.

"Those briefing me in September 2002 gave me inaccurate and incomplete information," she added.

The CIA says records indicate Pelosi was told that methods some call torture had been employed.

Republicans say Democrats could have protested.

"They were well aware of what the enhanced interrogation techniques were. They were well aware that they had been used," said House Minority Leader John Boehner.

Pelosi is demanding a Congressional investigation.

PULLMAN, Wash. - Six-year-old Denny Curran should be enjoying his last few days of summer before first grade. He should be teasing his brother, splashing in the pool, giving his parents a hard time about vegetables. Instead, Denny is dead, the victim of a horrific, freak bicycle accident that could happen to your child too. "Denny was an extraordinary child," his father Keith Curran told KHQ.

SPOKANE, Wash. - Spokane Police say they saw a dramatic increase in drug related calls on Tuesday. Police say at least one person has died and officers responded to almost 20 other calls of people acting erratically. Police are looking into whether there is a drug on the street that is "creating adverse health effects." Reported behavior is consistent with a stimulant, causing people to hallucinate and act in an unpredictable and sometimes violent manner.
