WENATCHEE, Wash. - A brush fire in Chelan County 10 miles north of Wenatchee grew to approximately 200 acres in size overnight and forced the closure of a state highway along the Columbia River because of heavy smoke.  Battalion Chief Brett Schafer with the Chelan County Fire District told KHQ that as of 7:30 a.m. Tuesday the fire was only 30% contained and that containment area was along the fire's eastern edge.>>

WENATCHEE, Wash. - Firefighters have completed a trail around a 250-acre wildfire about 10 miles north of Wenatchee.

Department of Natural Resources spokesman Mark Grassel says two helicopter dropping water Tuesday helped about 65 local, state and federal firefighters on the ground. They expect to declare the fire controlled by 6 p.m.

The fire started near an electrical transformer pole Monday night and spread quickly in a steady wind through grass and brush dried after several days of hot, sunny weather.

Smoke restricted traffic overnight on Highway 97A.

No structures were damaged. The Chelan County sheriff's office says residents of about a half-dozen scattered house who evacuated were allowed to return home Tuesday morning.
