Racing event brings hundreds of people to the Inland Northwest

SPOKANE, Wash. - Thousands of people from across the northwest and Canada are in town this weekend for a major sporting event happening at the Spokane County Raceway track for the very first time.  Not only is this a major racing event, it is bringing in hundreds of racers and fans from across the northwest and Canada.

Spokane County Raceway general manager Jay Livingston says this event and others to come will help the local economy.  "There's a number of people that have driven 12 to 13 hours to be here so were putting a lot of heads in beds so to speak "

Drag racers like Ashley Bart from High River Alberta say the new face of the raceway park is what attracted her to come to the inland northwest.  "It's a beautiful track, we've never been here before, we heard Bucky Austin took over the track, we're really excited to come down here, see what he's done, and it's a phenomenal job, the track is wonderful."

Livingston says, this racing event is just the beginning.  Major racing events are planned every month throughout the summer, which will bring in even more people and more money to the local economy.
