SPOKANE, Wash. - 30 students from Saint George Middle School were at the U.S. Holocaust museum the same morning the deadly shooting took place last week. They're now back in Spokane after a five day trip.

The middle school students had studied the holocaust in class and were in the midst of a five day tour of Washington D.C. landmarks when the deadly shooting at the museum happened.

Ruth Ann Johnson was one of two teachers with the group of 30 students. They had toured the museum from 10:30 to 11:30 that morning and were on the opposite side of the museum building when the shooting occurred at 12:50. The group actually saw the first emergency responders on scene.

Ruth Ann says they didn't learn what happened until later that day and the students immediately called their parents to let them know they were okay. She says the students handled the shooting well, but were definitely impacted by it. "We all talked and were asking if we remembered the guard, seen him. We didn't go back in the museum but drove by a couple times and saw the memorial. They were touched it made it very real for them."

The school says the students' tours that day actually had a broader theme of remembering acts of violence. They had begun the day with a tour of Ford's Theater where President Lincoln was shot, before going to the Holocaust Museum and were ending their day at the Pentagon Memorial to remember the victims of the September 11th attack.

SPOKANE, Wash. - Nothing beats being outside in this great weather right now, but this wet spring has brought a lot of pests. We’ve been talking about wasps and ticks, but black flies are coming out in force too. Jenny Zhang says she’s noticed black flies a lot more in her neighborhood. Her 2-year-old son Liam was bitten.  “Actually, when he got bit he thought it was a bumblebee and then he was afraid of them,” she says. The bites
