Police searching for men caught siphoning gas

SPOKANE, Wash. - The Spokane Police Department is looking for two men who reportedly siphoned gas from at least one vehicle in Browne's Addition early Tuesday morning. The men are described as scruffy looking in appearance and between the ages of 30 and 40 years old. One was reportedly wearing heavy clothes and black gloves while the other was wearing shorts, a flannel shirt, white socks and a black baseball hat. A witness reports that one of the men was on foot while the second was riding a bicycle.

A Browne's Addition resident, Victor Waggoner, says that at around 3:30 a.m. he was woken up by his neighbor who was outside his home at 2123 W. Riverside confronting two men who he says were siphoning gas from his vehicle. Victor tells KHQ that by the time he exited his home the men had siphoned all of the gas from his car and fled the scene in a truck.

Victor says that the men were in such a rush to leave that they left a second gas can behind. An hour later one of them returned to try to retrieve the gas can but Victor says that he and his neighbor were able to scare him off. Again, at 5:30 a.m. one of the men returned, again attempting to retrieve the gas can but again he was scared away.

The witnesses could not provide a description of the truck driven by the men but say that when they fled the scene it had a full gas can in the bed without a cap.
