The 18-year-old, Eddie Ramsey, also suffered a broken wrist in Wednesday's attack.

In an interview Friday, Ramsey described the unprovoked attack.

He says he was walking a friend to where she was staying and when they got there they were on the sidewalk out front.

A man, now identified as 49-year-old Douglas Harmon, walked toward them with a machete in his hand. Ramsey says the man started asking some "off-the-wall questions," including why they weren't being so nice.

Ramsey says Harmon told him he thought he was the mean one and started attacking him the

machete. "He hit me twice in the head with the blade... I jumped up, he got me in right in the ear, he almost cut my ear off," says Ramsey.

Ramsey says Harmon continued the attack hitting him in the wrist, breaking it.

"I remember getting behind him and kicking him down," says Ramsey, "then I started getting away."

Ramsey says the man started following him before he changed his mind.

Ramsey says he lost a lot of blood in the attack.

"It was raining, I was totally warm, hot from the blood that was covering me," says Ramsey.

Ramsey says Harmon is claiming to be insane "just so he could get out of it." He says Harmon knew what he was doing and that he should not be released.

"I think that he should be put away for life... If this guy gets out he's gonna do it again," says Ramsey, "what makes you think he wouldn't do it to a 5-year-old kid."

Harmon was arrested for 1st Degree Assault and is being transported to a mental institution.
