STEVENS COUNTY, Wash. - Fire crews responded to a structure fire that burned a home to the ground Monday afternoon.  DNR, Stevens County Fire District 1 and Spokane County Fire District 4 crews responded to the scene fully involved structure fire at Staley Rd. and Swenson Rd. just southwest of Deer Park.  The fire started just before 5 p.m. Monday.

When fire crews arrived on scene the structure was fully engulfed and the fire had spread from the structure to nearby brush, grass and trees and crews began trying to put out those spot fires.  Crews say they are fortunate the conditions were not windy because that could have driven the fire.  Only about  a half an acre of wild land was burned.

No one was home at time of the fire and there were no injuries, neighbors called to report the fire.  Fire crews say there was ammunition in the basement that ignited when they arrived and they also had to stand back because a propane tank was in the area of the fire.

Crews will be at the location of the fire for most of the night making sure the fire is completely out.  The home is a total loss and the cause of the fire is under investigation.

The Red Cross is assisting the people that lived in the house by providing them with clothing and shelter.
