Woman hit by truck succumbs to injuries

SPOKANE, Wash. - After being hit by a truck making a left-hand turn in downtown Spokane, 45-year-old Mary Vedder was taken to the hospital Thursday morning. Police said at the time that her condition was life-threatening due to a serious head injury. Thursday evening, Vedder's condition was critical but  stable.

According to Spokane Police, Friday morning they were informed by hospital staff that all Veddar's brain activity had irreversible ended, including involuntary activity necessary to sustain life.  Vedder's body remained on life support Friday morning when police released their statement.

According to a Sacred Heart Medical Center nursing supervisor Veddar was taken off life support Saturday morning and she was pronounced dead.

According to police, Mary Vedder was crossing 1st Ave. around 8 a.m. Thursday when a truck making a left turn onto Post struck her. The truck was not traveling very fast but police reported the woman suffered a life threatening head wound.

Police say the driver has not been cited or arrested but the investigation is ongoing. Police say it does not appear at this time drugs, alcohol, or recklessness were factors in the collision.
