Police identify suspect in dog assault

SPOKANE, Wash. - Police have identified the suspect in the dog assault that took place on June 22. Police are searching for 20-year-old Michael Jones, who they believe kicked in the window of a car, pulled a dog out and swung it on its leash against the wall of Spokane City Hall.

The night of the attack, a couple parked their Volvo on Post Street next to Spokane City Hall.  They went to an evening movie, leaving the five-pound Shih Tzu dog on its leash inside the car.

A man, now thought to be Jones, came along and kicked in the window of the car, pulled the dog 'Coco' out and swung it on its leash, smashing it against the wall of City Hall.  A woman with Jones can be seen in the security video trying to pull him away from the car.

The dog has been in treatment for life-threatening injuries, but is said to be doing better.

Police say witness testimony led them to believe Jones is the man seen in the video. Police also believe he may be trying to leave the area.

Jones is wanted a charge of 1st Degree Animal Cruelty.

Crime Stoppers is offering a $50 reward for information that leads to his arrest. Anyone who knows the whereabouts of Michael Jones is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 509-327-5111 or 1-800-222-TIPS.
