Police report: Man impersonates police officer, attempts to force woman to leave bar with him

COEUR D'ALENE, Idaho. - A Coeur d'Alene woman says a man, apparently intoxicated, told her he was a police officer and attempted to force her to leave a North Idaho bar with him.

The woman was at the Iron Horse bar with some friends early Friday, July 3. She says one of her friends, a unidentified man, got into an argument with another man. She says she got between the two in an attempt to diffuse the situation, which never turned into a physical fight.

Shortly after the argument, a different man, also unidentified, approached her claiming to be an undercover Cd'A police officer. He told her that she was interfering with an investigation and that she needed to go outside with him. She said she was a little surprised because she didn't think she did anything wrong. The man told her he was going to arrest her and said he had an unmarked car in the alley behind the bar.

The woman says she did not believe the man and asked to see some identification to which the man responded he did not need to show her any. That's when the man grabbed her left arm and twisted it behind her back and said if she was going to fight with him, he was going to handcuff her.

According to the woman, the man had a heavy odor of alcohol on his breath and she thought he was drunk. She also didn't think there was an unmarked car in the alley and thought it odd that if there was a car in the alley, that he would walk her out the front door instead of the back.

She repeatedly asked if she could see identification or if an officer in a marked unit could respond. Each time the man got more and more angry.

According to a police report filed by the woman, once she was outside, fearing the man would do something to her, she began to scream. Security from the bar approached and asked what was happening.

She told security the man claimed to be an undercover officer and she didn't believe him. Security asked to see identification and when the man wouldn't produce any, they told him to leave.

The man let the woman go and said, "You don't know what your doing. You're gonna be sorry," according to the police report.

The man then walked to a white and black motorcycle parked in front of the bar and rode away.

The woman described the man as 5'09" and about 190 pounds with an athletic build. He was wearing a hat, white T-shirt and jeans.
