Family loses 'nearly everything' in U-Haul theft

SPOKANE, Wash. - A Canadian family lost nearly everything they own Sunday when a thief stole their U-Haul truck from the parking lot of a Spokane Valley motel.

The 34-year-old father called 911 Sunday and said someone had made off with the truck from the Holiday Inn Express in the 9200 block of E. Mission between 8:30 and 9:30 a.m.

He told a deputy the family was moving from Canada to Florida and that nearly everything they owned was inside. Crossing the U.S./Canada border required that they had an inventory of everything inside the truck, and he provided that to the deputy.

However, a list of serial numbers for the more expensive items was inside the truck when it was stolen. The motel has no exterior surveillance video and the only witness said that the truck was still parked in the lot at 8:30.

The truck is a 2007 Ford Econoline E-450 with Arizona license plates AD21523. The color is white and orange with graphics of a Sand Hill Crane on the sides.

Anyone with information about the theft is urged to call Crime Check at 456-2233.
