5-alarm structure fire burning near homes in Bremerton

BREMERTON, Wash. - A strike team from Pierce County and dozens of other firefighters are working the scene of a huge fire at a Bremerton business that will affect traffic coming off of ferries Monday morning.

The fire at Arnold's Home Furnishings Center on 3520 Kitsap Way broke out around 2 am Monday. It quickly grew from a 3-alarm fire to a 5-alarm fire.

The fire is forcing the closure of the 3500 block of Kitsap Way until at least 7 am. Bremerton police say drivers who use Kitsap Way and motorists coming off of ferries in Bremerton will need to find alternate routes.

The website for Arnold's Home Furnishings Center says its store is more than 66,000 square feet and filled with wooden chests, curios, dressers, bureaus, shelves, benches, tables, trunks and sofas -- all of which would provide plenty of fuel for fire.

The company also sells office sets with desks, chairs and cabinets. Arnold's has been a Kitsap Way staple since 1951.
