Cool/breezy today; temps back up to 80's mid-week

SPOKANE, Wash.- According to forecasters, Labor Day's weather will be an improvement from Sunday's thunderstorms, but the Inland Northwest won't be back to sunny weather until mid-week.

On Sunday afternoon, a series of thunderstorms came through the Spokane area, knocking down trees and cutting off power to thousands of Avista and Inland Lights and Power customers. The storms hit most eastern Washington counties, before continuing into North Idaho.

One family in Colbert was hit especially hard when a 50-foot tall tree fell in her yard. When the large tree uprooted, it also took down the Blue Spruce next to it. The homeowner is concerned because she and her husband are having a wedding at their home this weekend.

Right now, Avista is reporting 1,259 outages, the most being 919 in Colville. Expected restoration for all outages is expected to be around 7 a.m. Monday morning.

The weather for Labor Day is expected to be cool and breezy with some showers. Around mid-week, forecasters are looking for the temperatures to go back into the 80's.
