ENUMCLAW, Wash. - The National Weather Service confirms wind damage in the Enumclaw area was caused by a tornado.

Meteorologist Ni Cushmeer says two people from the Seattle office inspected the scene Monday and found signs of the twisting motion, rather than a straight line wind.

The tornado that spun out of a Sunday evening thunderstorm brought down trees, knocking out power for 1,300 Puget Sound Energy customers. Winds also damaged barns and sheds and tossed lawn furniture. Some residents told TV stations they saw a funnel cloud.

There are no reports of injuries. Cushmeer says tornadoes are rare in Washington - about only two or three a year and usually not in Western Washington.

The Sunday night wind also caused a homemade plane to flip as it taxied at the Bremerton airport. Police said the pilot was not injured.

The Weather Service says the .93 inches of rain Sunday at Sea-Tac Airport broke the old record of .38 set in 1980.
