Stephanie's September 2009 Diabetes Notes

Posted: Updated:

There's so much to share this month - so let's get right to it!

Washington State University  is seeking people with diabetes - A core group of clinical researchers led by Carol H. Wysham, MD within the Department of Pharmacotherapy are conducting clinical trials centered on the management of diabetes and its complications.  Click here for more information and to see if you might be a candidate to take part in this important research!

Also on the KHQ Diabetes Community page is a great video of a story Cindi DeHoog did about a young lady on the Shadle Park High School volleyball team who is living with Type 1 Diabetes.   It's a great story - I'd love for you all to watch it! Click here to go to the page.

November is American Diabetes Month, and the American Diabetes Association is launching a national movement to Stop Diabetes.   There are so many ways to become a part of the campaign - I'm mentioning it two months in advance because I think we can all do our part to share the message and raise awareness leading up to November.  If you're on facebook, visit the American Diabetes Association's page and follow @AmDiabetesAssn on twitter to learn more about ways you join the effort.  Invite your family, friends and co-workers to join the effort as well!

Right now, The American Diabetes Association is encouraging schools to hold a "School Walk for Diabetes".    School Walk for Diabetes is an educational school fund-raising program that promotes healthy living, school spirit and community involvement. While raising money for the American Diabetes Association, students learn about diabetes and the importance of making healthy choices including eating nutritional foods and exercising every day. The money raised through School Walk for Diabetes helps to fund diabetes research, education and advocacy in support of the mission of the American Diabetes Association.  If you would like to coordinate a school team, click here  to go to the KHQ Diabetes Community page, then look for "School Walk for Diabetes" under our Top Headlines for more information!  Register your school for School Walk for Diabetes and win a chance to receive:
** 10 of the first 200 schools to register will win a visit from the author of Fernando's Fun-tastic Friends (Register for School Walk between August 1, 2009 and December 15, 2009 to be eligible.)
** 20 of the first 200 schools to register will win a $150 faculty luncheon sponsored by Boar's Head (Register for School Walk between August 1, 2009 and December 4, 2009 to be eligible.)

It's going to be a busy autumn - just don't forget to eat right and get out & get active!

Yours truly,

Stephanie Vigil.
