City, County burn bans extended

SPOKANE COUNTY, Wash. - Spokane County has extended a burn ban put in place in July until further notice.

The ban, issued on July 28, affects all unauthorized 'open burning' and recreational fires within the unincorporated areas of Spokane County.

The City of Spokane also extended its ban of recreational fires until further notice.

The bans do not include sanctioned burning, such as field burning, provided appropriate approvals are obtained.

Using backyard barbecues, chimneys and other patio and deck warmers is allowed as long as only approved fuel such as seasoned firewood, briquettes or propane is used.

Failure to comply with the burn bans could have serious consequences. Anyone who does any open burning and does not stop when ordered to can face a fine of $1,000 and 90 days in jail.
