LEWISTON, Idaho. - The first hunter to report a wolf kill in Idaho says he's been flooded with nasty messages since his name hit the national media Wednesday. Robert Millage says he's been called a wolf murderer, a fat redneck and other names in about 50 phone calls and hundreds of e-mails. Some suggested that his real estate business will suffer, though Millage suspects he's more likely to gain clients than lose many. Millage says he has thick skin but has alerted law enforcement.>>

COEUR D'ALENE, Idaho. - Members of the Sandpoint-based North Idaho Wolf Alliance turned out at the Cd'A Fish and Game office Friday morning to protest the state's first regulated wolf hunt. Alongside the protesters was a smaller group who came out to show their support of the hunts. The wolf hunts in the Panhandle district would run until 2010 or until 30 wolves in are killed. Each district in the state determines the number of wolves to be killed based on its wolf population. >>

HELENA, Mont. - Montana wildlife officials have received the first report of a wolf killed in the hunting season that began Tuesday.

Perry Zumwalt of Roberts shot the wolf Tuesday just north of Yellowstone National Park. He could not immediately be reached for comment.

Montana's gray wolf season began at sunrise Tuesday in three districts in the Bob Marshall Wilderness Complex and in the

Beartooth Wilderness near Cooke City. Wolf hunting in the rest of the state opens on Oct. 25. About 8,800 licenses have been sold and the state has a quota of 75 wolves.

The Montana Department of Fish Wildlife and Parks say the first reported kill was taken in the hunting district just north of Yellowstone. The agency had no further details on the animal yet.

The allowed quota in that area is just 12 wolves.

An ongoing court case challenges the legality of the wolf hunts in Montana and Idaho, but a judge earlier this month decided not to intervene in the hunts.
