SPOKANE, Wash. - Spokane Police Major Crimes detectives have arrested a suspect in connection with the shooting death of two people in downtown Spokane on Saturday night.

Mark Toner was wanted for Intimidation of a Witness and First Degree Criminal Assistance. He is not thought to be directly involved in the shooting death of two people. The murders happened near the area of Adams Street and Boone Ave about 9:30 Saturday night. When police arrived on scene, they say they found two men, both dead from mulitple gunshot wounds.

Police say one man was in his thirties and the other man was in his forties. The victims were both pronounced dead upon arriving at a local hospital.

Sunday morning Spokane Police said they have probable cause to charge 27-year-old Merle W. Harvey with two counts of first degree murder.  Police are currently looking for Harvey and detectives believe he may be in the company of a white female, mid 30s to 40s with short red/brown hair a thin build about 5'08" tall.  Police say they could be traveling in a older model flatbed truck.

Police have identified Jack Lamere, born in 1976, as one of the homicide victims. The other victim's name is being withheld pending next of kin notification.

Neighbor Lori Averill says, from the moment an Merle Harvey pulled up outside of her apartment complex she knew something wasn't right.

Averill says she watched from the porch as the unidentified woman, Harvey and her neighbor Lamere were arguing over what appeared to be a car trade.

Averill says when the argument escalated Harvey pulled out a gun and pulled the trigger. "The guy (Harvey) opened the door, and he looked like he was fiddling with something and grabbed a gun and shot him six times.  He (Lamere) was just laying there"

Then Averill says, Harvey reached inside of his truck, grabbed an even bigger gun and shot Lamere's friend. "He was trying to get out of line of fire, I was sitting on the bench and then he ran toward me. He started shooting at him (Lamere's friend, ) I thought he was going to shoot me, so I  dropped to my knees. I heard three shots, and I looked over and saw he was laying there, dead. "

Averill says, it's hard to even get, the gory details out of her mind.

The Spokane Police Major Crimes Unit have identified one victim as 33 year-old Jack Lemerre, but have yet to identify the second victim. They say they will identify that man pending notification of his family. That is expected to happen sometime later Monday.
