Antique car part missing, retired detective looking for radiator cap

Posted: Updated:

SPOKANE, Wash. - Glen Whiteley was driving a 1915 Model-T to an antique car show last week when he says the radiator cap on his engine rattled off.

"I was almost to the church when I realized that had vibrated off without my looking at it," he said.

Now the retired police detective is trying to solve one more mystery: where the radiator cap went.

Whiteley says the cap was solid bronze and had four-inch wings on either side.

The church, near 33rd and Grand on Spokane's South Hill, is only about six blocks from his home. Whiteley says he drove the route, neighbors walked the route and no one found the cap. Now he hopes someone walking down the street last month found the cap and can return it for his car.

"It'd give a little more faith in people if they would come back with something that's lost," he said.

Whiteley worked for 25 years as a police detective, helping tie criminals to scenes using fingerprints.

Now he collects police memorabilia, including the Model-T he uses to drive police officers in local parades.
