KHQ Anchors Reveal their Favorite Childhood Books

Want to know what some of your favorite KHQ anchors read when they were children? Read on to hear about their favorite books as a child.

One of my favorites as a little girl was Curious George.  I loved seeing what kind of trouble George was getting into.  He couldn't stay out of trouble if his life depended on it!  And Dr. Seuss of course is a classic... I loved them as a child and loved reading them to my kids when they were young!  Charlotte's Web was also a great read... I was a little older when I read it but I like the message it has.

The Giving Tree - My mom gave me this one, and I have since read it to my daughter.  I love the lesson of selfless acts, and the simplicity of what really matters in life - Love.

Where the Sidewalk Ends (book of short poems by Shel Silverstein) - I enjoyed reading (and memorizing) some of the different poems.  At night my parents would read me a couple.

James and the Giant Peach - although I don't remember all the details, I remember liking to read this book.  I always thought it would be so cool to have a large "Peach" house.

Sam Adams KHQ Sports Anchor

Green Eggs and Ham- by Dr. Seuss: I always got a kick out of hearing my own name, Sam, in the story.  Now I enjoy it even more telling it to my son.

Calvin & Hobbes - I had the entire collection of these comics when I was a kid.  I loved Calvin's imagination... how he created an entire world around him.

Of Mice & Men - Probably my favorite book I read in high school.  I sometimes cheated (yes) and read the Cliff's Notes version of books in high school, but I read this one cover-to-cover.

All-time favorite as child: Curious George.  I love reading this book to kids because it's such a cute and timeless story. I love seeing first hand how this book still today captures the imagination of children like it did for me as a young boy.

Middle School: The Chosen - by Chaim Potok  A terrific tale of two boys who become the best of friends through the great sport of baseball, despite having different religous beliefs.

High School: The Catcher in the Rye by J.D. Salinger. Holden Caulfield's care-free, devil-may-care attitude is equally entertaining and heart-wrenching.

Sean Owsley KHQ News Anchor

Oh The Places You'll Go- I love this book because of the underlying message of what you can do by the way you look at things.  The only limits in life are self-imposed.  Dream big!  It's just a great message that captures the essence and imagination of life for me as a young child.

The Lion, The Witch, & The Wardrobe- This is the book that I probably read the most times growing up.  It hooked me in and the C.S. Lewis narrative easily, for me, painted a picture.  I could see the story vividly as I read it.  Great message, good story, all around excellent read!

Encyclopedia Brown Series- I thoroughly enjoyed this series because of the way it forced you to try and solve the cases.  Giving you hints along the way to each case to see if you could solve the mystery before it's revealed in the book.
