LEWISTON, Idaho. - The first hunter to report a wolf kill in Idaho says he's been flooded with nasty messages since his name hit the national media Wednesday. Robert Millage says he's been called a wolf murderer, a fat redneck and other names in about 50 phone calls and hundreds of e-mails. Some suggested that his real estate business will suffer, though Millage suspects he's more likely to gain clients than lose many. Millage says he has thick skin but has alerted law enforcement.>>

EAGLE, Idaho. - An Idaho man has been charged with poaching a female wolf pup that was killed from a public road.

Idaho Fish and Game says Randy Strickland, of Eagle, was arraigned in Valley County on misdemeanor charges of taking a game animal illegally and shooting from a public highway.

Fish and Game says the wolf was shot at about 6 p.m. Sept. 6 in an area closed to wolf hunting at the time.

Strickland called the Department of Fish and Game's 24-hour hotline to report the kill, maintaining it was shot in the Sawtooth zone where hunting began September 1. He said he later realized it was in the McCall-Weiser zone after seeing a map.

The agency says Strickland has pleaded not guilty.

If convicted, Strickland could face fines, loss of hunting privileges and up to six months in jail.

A pretrial conference is scheduled for Nov. 16.
