Driver cleared of wrongdoing after car hits pedestrian

Driver cleared of wrongdoing after car hits pedestrian

SPOKANE, Wash.- Spokane Police Officers say charges will not be filed against a driver who hit a pedestrian with his vehicle late Thursday night. But, they say charges could be filed against the pedestrian. According to officers, the vehicle was driving southbound on Crestline, at an appropriate speed and had a green traffic light at Wellesley Avenue.

The pedestrian, crossing Crestline at Wellesley, ran against the red light in front of the car and was hit midway across the roadway. The force of the hit was so powerful the pedestrian was actually thrown out of his shoes.

Police say the driver had no time to stop to avoid hitting the pedestrian and was not at fault for the collision. The pedestrian, a male in his 30's, was taken to an area hospital with a serious head injury. His injuries are not life-threatening at this time.

A person has been hit by a vehicle at Wellesley and Crestline.  Spokane police tell us according to witnesses the driver did have the green light, when the pedestrian darted out in front of him.  The pedestrian has been transported to a local hospital with serious head injuries.
