Wood stove fire spreads, destroys Athol mobile home

ATHOL, Idaho- Right now the Spirit Lake fire chief out of Athol, Idaho is calling a mobile home a total loss after a fire ripped through it early Friday morning.

It happened Friday morning just before 1:00 at 2767 west Summer Avenue in Athol. Fire crews arrived on scene to find the mobile home completely consumed in flames. The homeowners were able to get safely out.

According to a fire spokesperson, the mobile home had been recently rented. Those renters did not keep the place very tidy so the mobile homeowners took the back the property. The homeowners were inside the mobile home Thursday night and lit a fire in the wood stove to keep warm.

For reasons unknown right now, the wood stove somehow malfunctioned and caught part of the mobile home on fire. That fire quickly spread, eventually fully enveloping the home.

The mobile home is considered a total loss, and later Friday an investigation will get underway to determine what caused the fire to spread.
