    SPOKANE COUNTY, Wash. - For many Spokane-area commuters Monday, the first taste of winter driving conditions was a bitter one. By noon, area law enforcement agencies had recorded nearly 30 crashes and slide-offs, many caused by motorists failing to recognize that roadways had been slickened by rain and fog that froze to roadway surfaces overnight.>>

SPOKANE, Wash. - A 25-year-old was killed Monday morning after losing control of his pickup truck and colliding with a semi-truck head-on, according to Washington State Patrol.

Jesse Crayne was heading south on Highway 395 around 5:30 a.m., near the Spokane-Stevens County line, when he lost control of his truck and hit a log truck head-on.

Crayne was transported to Sacred Heart where he died around 8:30 a.m.

The driver of the semi was not injured.

Washington State Patrol Troopers say ice on the roadway is probably the main cause.

The fatal collision is the most serious of a series of slide-offs, rollovers and vehicle crashes throughout Monday morning that as a result of drivers not being prepared for the ice on the roadway during their morning commute.
