One person killed in head-on collision on Hwy. 95

ATHOL, Idaho. - The Idaho State Police dispatch has confirmed that at least one person has been killed in a head-on collision that happened on Hwy. 95 four miles north of Athol Monday afternoon.

The crash occurred at milepost 455, and Hwy. 95 was blocked in both directions between Granite-Kelso Cut-Off Road and South 113 Road. The road remained blocked for about two and a half hours while police investigated the crash and rescue crews helped clear the scene.

ISP says a Dodge Intrepid, driven by 43-year-old Michael L. Johns of Athol, and a Jeep Liberty, driven by 27-year-old Jayme Ruben Shottanana of Bonners Ferry, collided around 5:15 p.m. Monday. Michael Johns was killed in the wreck, police say he was not wearing his seatbelt at the time of the crash. Jayme Shottanana was taken to Kootenai Medical Center with unknown injuries.  Police say Shottanana was wearing her seat belt.

Authorities say the crash is under investigation, and they are trying to determine which vehicle was traveling in which direction at the time of the wreck.

Alcohol is said to be a factor in the crash.
