Sheriff questions boyfriend in Grindley investigation

COLFAX, Wash. - It is still unclear how 23-year-old Kristen Grindley ended up in a pool of blood on a rural Whitman County Road Wednesday morning and now investigators are looking to Grindley's boyfriend for answers.

A passer-by called authorities at 1:41 a.m. Wednesday to report a woman lying in the road about a mile from the intersection of Highway 27 and Albion rd.

That woman, later identified as Grindley, was taken to Pullman Regional Hospital and has since been transferred to Sacred Heart in Spokane.

Based on Grindley's condition, officials believe she may have either fallen from a car or have been struck by one.

Since the investigation began, the Whitman County Sheriff's office has learned Grindley was last seen safe a mere 11 minutes before she was spotted lying in a pool of blood on the rural road.

Investigators have since interviewed Grindley's boyfriend as a 'person of interest,' whose name has not been released and are looking into his background.

According to police records, Grindley's boyfriend was investigated for domestic violence in April of this year after slapping Grindley across the face. Grindley's boyfriend said he slapped her across the face in an act of self defense after she slapped him across the face. No charges were filed in the case.

Officials say the couple has been dating for about a year.

SPOKANE, Wash. - From the outside, the Repeat Boutique looks like a lot of other thrift shops in Spokane.  Inside, some might describe the stuff for sale as old, used, discarded garbage -- but store manager CJ Curtis sees its potential. And just like the goods in her shop, CJ is on her way to a new life, one far from the one she once lived.

SPOKANE, Wash. - "He told me to pull over, and my jaw just dropped," a Spokane woman, who says a fake police officer tried to pull her over, doesn't want to be named. In fear, this could happen again. "It really scared me and kind of threw me off that night. I don't even want to drive by myself anymore," she said. She tells me that she was driving around North Spokane at night on her way home from work.
