Woman hit by vehicle after crashing her car

SPOKANE, Wash. - Around 10:30 Friday night Spokane police officers responded to a report of a woman who had been struck by a vehicle on northbound Division St. at Walton Ave.

Witnesses said the woman was driving northbound on Division St. and for an unknown reason lost control and struck the concrete median. The vehicle's airbags deployed, and it came to a stop, still stuck on the median, about 75 feet north of Walton Ave.

The female driver who was approximately 40-years-old, exited her vehicle and began to use a cell phone as she crossed from the median eastbound across Division St. toward the sidewalk. A passing motorist, not involved in the initial collision, struck the female in the roadway as she attempted to cross.

The female suffered head injuries as a result of the collision, and was transported to a local hospital for treatment where she was treated for serious injuries, and was not positively identified.  Police say drugs and or alcohol were not a factor in the collision. Police were not able to give an update on the woman's condition when contacted on Saturday or Sunday.

Anyone who witnessed this collision or has further information is encouraged to contact the Spokane Police Department through Crime Check at 456-2233.  Refer to report #09-394146.
