SPOKANE, Wash. - Spokane has taken another step toward meeting its 2010 budget after Spokane firefighters set up a salary reduction and early retirement plan. Early this year, the City identified a $7 million shortfall in its General Fund budget for 2010. The City had asked its employee groups to participate in solving half the shortfall. The salary reduction and early retirement plan is in addition to a 'high-deductible' medical plan the firefighters are already adopting.>>

SPOKANE, Wash. - With the City Council's unanimous adoption of a new contract Monday night with Local 270-Prosecutors Association, the City of Spokane has taken another step toward meeting its 2010 budget.>>
SPOKANE, Wash. - Early this year, the City identified a $7 million shortfall in its General Fund budget for 2010, largely because of the national economic recession.  The City has asked its employee groups to participate in solving half the shortfall. City's firefighters have agreed to replace their medical plan with one that's referred to as a "high-deductible" plan. The change will save more than $300,000 and discussions continue on additional savings the firefighters might offer.>>

LEWISTON, Idaho. - Lewiston Fire Department Chief Gordy Gregg says the agency will try some on-the-go shuffling following the elimination of a division chief due to budget cuts.

Steve Minnis, who was hired October 2, 2006, had been in charge of operations, including fire, emergency medical services and the hazardous materials response team.

He oversaw 45 full-time firefighters and 15 part-time reservists.

His position was eliminated November 20.

Gregg says he will now handle some of those responsibilities with the remaining division chief, Linda Steputat.
