Time to ship, if you want your gifts there by Christmas

SPOKANE, Wash. - You may notice a little longer lines this week as you try to send a holiday gift.

If you haven't found a present yet, but still want to ship it, this week may be your last and least expensive chance to get it there on time.

This week is officially the busiest shipping week of the year.

Monday alone, UPS will drop off more than 22 million packages. That's more than 250 deliveries every second.

The Post Office will handle 830 million pieces of mail Monday and for the week, FedEx will deliver more than 50 million parcels mixed in with the millions of letters, cards and boxes.

Experts say this week, shoppers should be able to find some shipping bargains.

In fact, the latest data shows that about 60 percent of retailers will offer free shipping for customers regardless of how much they spend.

The main reason for the deals and the rush is that the 18th, this Friday, is the last day a majority of retailers can ship a gift and guarantee it will get there before Christmas.
