Suspect arrested after struggle with Spokane Sheriff's Deputy

SPOKANE, Wash.- Spokane Sheriff's Deputies confirm that one person was arrested early Monday morning after a brief struggle with a Sheriff's deputy in north Spokane. The incident started just after 1:30 Monday morning in the 24,000 block of north Newport Highway.

The Sheriff's Office says one of its deputies stopped a car whose driver, 28 year-old Gary Todd, was wanted on a felony warrant. When Todd exited the vehicle, he became combative with the deputy and engaged that deputy in a fight. Todd then ran off into the woods. The sheriff's deputy detained a passenger in the vehicle, then went after Gary Todd.

Todd was found a short time later in the woods and arrested. Before being booked into the Spokane County Jail, Todd was treated at Holy Family Hospital for some minor injuries he received during that struggle with the deputy. The deputy was not injured.

Todd will be booked into the Spokane County Jail on the initial warrant for his arrest, Resisting an Officer, Making False Statements, and Driving on a Suspended License. The passenger in the car was released at the scene.
