Car wreck on Wellesley

SPOKANE VALLEY, Wash. - Two teen-aged girls were transported to a Spokane hospital with life-threatening and serious injuries, after the SUV they were in slammed into a power pole. Spokane County emergency crews are investigating the car crash in the 19000 block of E. Wellesley.  According to a Spokane County Sheriff's Deputy, speed was a factor in the wreck.

Authorities say the 16-year-old driver was heading eastbound on Wellesley and lost control of the vehicle as she crossed the bridge over Trent.  The Trailblazer spun twice as it crossed over westbound lanes before slamming into a large metal power pole.  The passenger, a 17-year-old girl, was transported via LifeFlight with life-threatening injuries.  The 16-year-old female driver was taken to the hospital by ambulance with serious injuries.

Later Tuesday afternoon, authorities said both of the young women were in serious condition and were both being treated in the intensive care unit. Sheriff's deputies hoped to have Wellesley open bye 4:15 pm, Tuesday.
