    QUINCY, Wash. - A Washington State Patrol major accident investigation team is trying to determine how a Grant County sheriff's deputy on routine patrol was killed in a one-car rollover crash. Sheriff Frank T. DeTrolio says 52-year-old John Bernard was on a routine patrol when his car left the roadway and rolled over at 7:20 p.m. Sunday night, nine miles south of Ephrata.>>

MOSES LAKE, Wash. - The Grant County Sheriff's Office says an autopsy shows that a deputy died as a result of severe head trauma from a one-car crash.
     
Deputy John Bernard was not on his way to an emergency and he was wearing a seat belt when his patrol car left a road nine miles south of Ephrata and rolled Sunday evening. He died at the scene.
     
Undersheriff John Turley announced the autopsy results Wednesday.
     
The department also announced plans for a memorial service for Bernard at noon Monday at the Big Bend Community College gymnasium in Moses Lake. The service will be open to the public.
     
Immediately following the service, uniform personnel will accompany Bernard's family to Ephrata for a private graveside service.
