OLYMPIA, Wash. - Washington's unemployment rate was up to 9.5 percent in December, a half a percentage point increase from the month before.

State officials say more than 334,000 people were unemployed and looking for work last month. November's unemployment rate, originally reported at 9.2 percent, was later revised down to 9 percent.

Washington has lost more than 106,000 jobs since December 2008, a 3.6 percent decrease. Nationally, employment declined by 3.1 percent during the same time.

$6 million to support green jobs in Washington

Washington state is receiving nearly $6 million in federal stimulus funds to promote clean energy jobs.

Labor Secretary Hilda Solis says the money will go to the Washington State Workforce Training and Education Coordinating Board to train about 4,700 people.

The grants are for people with disabilities, veterans and those who have been laid off.

Sen. Patty Murray calls Wednesday's announcement "wonderful news" and says she is confident those who receive the training will be able to find jobs.

Training includes energy management and auditing.
