Semi driver hits median on I-90, narrowly avoids serious crash

SPOKANE COUNTY, Wash.- A crash early Tuesday morning on westbound I-90 near the Stateline made for a very close call for one semi driver. WSP Troopers say the semi driver drifted into the center median cable that separates the east and westbound lanes of I-90 just after 2am Tuesday.

Troopers say the driver was heading toward Spokane when he drifted into the cable, which ripped his oil pan off and spilled oil onto the roadway.

The driver was forced to pull over so he wouldn't burn out his motor. Troopers say he was not injured and they don't believe drugs or alcohol contributed to the crash. However, that driver will be cited for negligent driving.

I-90 was blocked for a short time as Troopers worked to clean up the resulting oil spill from the semi's oil pan. Crews managed to soak up any excess oil with a sawdust mixture and say it shouldn't pose a danger to morning commuters.
