Hitchhiker stabs driver, flees on foot

POST FALLS, Idaho. - North Idaho authorities searching for a hitchhiker who is suspected of stabbing a man in the leg after the driver stopped to pick him up.

The 49-year-old driver said he picked up the man near Seltice Way and Stateline and that when the pair had reached Seltice Way and Beck Rd, the hitchhiker punched him in the face and stabbed him in the leg.

After punching and stabbing the driver, the hitchhiker jumped out of the car and ran, heading south.

The suspect is described as a white man in his 20s and about 5 feet 9 inches tall. He was wearing blue jeans and a blue hooded sweatshirt.

The driver, after being stabbed, drove to the 700 block of W. Seltice before being transported to the hospital with what police described as non life-threatening injuries.

Anyone with information is asked to call the Kootenai County Sheriff's Department at 208-446-1300.
