South Hill residents on cougar watch

SPOKANE, Wash. - Residents in one South Hill neighborhood are on alert after a cougar sighting there over the weekend.

Handmade signs posted in the neighborhood warn that the cougar was seen in the area of 65th and Ray around noon Saturday.

The Washington State Department of Fish and Wildlife said they received an official complaint about a cougar from the area of 78th, but no official complaint has come from a resident near where the signs are posted. The department did send a wildlife officer to 78th, but that officer was unable to locate the animal.

The department says a cougar sighting is nothing new to the area and is asking residents to keep on the lookout.
