SPOKANE, Wash. - A 16-year-old was arrested Wednesday for possession of a stolen gun after police say he was showing off the weapon to students near Lewis and Clark High School.

A District 81 patrol officer learned that two teens were showing off the gun and passing it between themselves around noon. The District 81 officer called police who arrived on scene a short time later.

The teens had left by the time officers arrived but after a short search, one of the teens was spotted at the STA Plaza. When he saw police he tried to run on foot through Riverpark Square, dumping the gun in a trash can inside Macy's as he fled.

Police caught up with the teen and arrested him. He may be facing other charges stemming from the pursuit.

Police say the gun was stolen in a vehicle theft last October. A second gun stolen, a rifle, is still missing.
