SPOKANE VALLEY, Wash. - An elderly man was attacked and robbed Friday morning by two suspects who broke in the man's Spokane Valley home armed with a knife.

The home invasion happened just before 8 a.m. in the 8600 block of E. Broadway.

The man, who was sleeping when the suspects broke in, was confronted by the suspects who attacked him with a flashlight. The man was hit on the head and suffered a broken finger in the attack.

The suspects then proceeded to rob the man of a handgun, prescription medication and gold coins before leaving his home. Police do not know whether the suspects left on foot or fled in a car.

Both suspects are said to be white men. One is described as being 20-years-old and around 5 feet 11 inches tall. He was wearing a gray hoodie under a dark orange coat and was armed with a knife.

The second suspect was thought to be in his late 30s. He too is around 5 feet 11 inches tall and was described as having a medium build. He was wearing a gray hoodie.

    MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. - Police in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina say a 12-year-old-boy is alive after being trapped underwater for nine minutes. A video obtained by NBC News shows the boy and his friend swimming around the lazy river at a resort. They removed a metal grate on the floor. The boy was swimming down to explore the hole when his leg became stuck. His friend and several adults tried to get him out, but were unsuccessful.
