SEATTLE, Wash. - Friends and family of Shantina "Kat" Smiley don't know what to think about the weekend disappearance of the Silverdale woman and her 8-year-old son. Authorities say the case continues to baffle them as well. Lt. Chris Mealy of the Thurston County Sheriff's office said Tuesday that investigators don't know anything more than what they knew Sunday night.>>

SEATTLE, Wash. - The search and rescue operation for the Washington mother who vanished with her son last weekend has been called off.

Lt. Chris Mealy of the Thurston County Sheriff's office says detectives are still working on the case, but they are no longer searching the woods or the water for 29-year-old Shantina Smiley and 8-year-old Azriel Carver.

Mealy says investigators are still working on a number of different theories, and haven't eliminated any possibilities.

Mealy says they will find Smiley and her son. It's just a matter and when and where. And he's still hoping they will find her alive and well.
