SPOKANE COUNTY, Wash. - Nearly $6 million spent removing snow that fell during a winter storm from December 2008 to January 2009 has been reimbursed to Spokane County through the Federal Emergency Management Agency or FEMA.

During the storm, which left much of the county covered in feet of snow, several jurisdictions within Spokane County declared a State Of Emergency. On February 9, 2009, Governor Gregoire requested a Presidential Declaration which was granted by President Obama.

Under the Presidential Declaration, Spokane was able to recover $5,677,398 spent removing snow during a 48 period. The recovery included eligible repair to public and private non-profit facilities.
