Local authorities arrest five people in spray paint vandalism

SPOKANE, Wash. - Sheriff's deputies Saturday identified, tracked and arrested four adults and a 15 year old girl for a vandalism incident in which they spray painted two vehicles and the house where the girl's former boyfriend lived.

Deputies Jeff Conway and Matt Gould said the paint caused thousands of dollars in damages. On Saturday, Conway was dispatched to a home in the 300 block of North Silver Lake Road after a neighbor advised the residents there that someone had painted their home and two vehicles with red, black and silver spray paint.  The siding had the image of a swastika and "go to hell" painted on it.

The female resident could think of no specific suspects, but said her son had been confronted recently by male friends of his former girlfriend.  Her new boyfriend was identified as 18 year old Zachery D. Wilkinson.

Conway called Deputy Gould to assist and they tracked the girl and Wilkinson to a home near Lakeland Village on Salnave Road.  While speaking with them, they noted both had spray paint on their fingernails.

Additional investigation led to the identification of three other suspects, Jared B. Santos, 19, Hunter D. Van Ausdal, 20, and Justin M. Bond, 19.  The two deputies found and arrested each of them, and seized a Wal-Mart receipt for spray paint that they found in the Salnave Road driveway.

They also found and photographed several cans of spray paint left in a car belonging to Van Ausdal.

All four adults were booked into the Spokane County Jail and the 15-year-old girl was booked into Spokane County Juvenile Detention.  Each faces a single felony count of first degree malicious mischief.
