Ballots postmarked by 8pm Tuesday for Spokane County Special Election

SPOKANE, Wash.- The Spokane County Elections Office will be open late Tuesday so that voters can return their ballots, postmarked no later than 8:00 p.m. Tuesday, for the April 27, 2010 Special Election. More than 113,000 have been mailed for this election.  

Voters can return completed ballots in several ways. Ballots can be mailed by affixing first class postage and ensuring a postmark of Election Day or earlier. Also, ballots can be deposited into one of the white election drop boxes located at the public libraries listed below as well as the STA Plaza and Spokane County Elections Office.  

Finally, ballots can be dropped off at a voter service center that will be open on Election Day from 7:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. The service centers will be located at the North Spokane Library Branch - 44 E. Hawthorne Rd; St Mark's Church - 316 E. 24th Ave.; STA Plaza - 701 W. Riverside Ave.; and the Spokane County Elections Office - 1033 W. Gardner Ave.

    PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) - Police in Oregon say two people died and another was hurt in a stabbing on a Portland light-rail train after a man yelled racial slurs at two young Muslim women. The Oregonian/OregonLive reports officers arrested a man Friday afternoon who ran from the train.  Portland police Sgt. Pete Simpson says the assailant on the train was ranting on many topics, using "hate speech or biased language," and turned his focus on the women.

Riverdale police say witnesses heard the children ages 2 and 5 making noise and saw the car shaking, got the older child to pull the emergency latch and called 911.
