Kootenai deputies return fire, arrest man

HAYDEN, Idaho - The Kootenai County Sheriff's Department is reporting one man in custody, charged with Aggravated Assault after an exchange of gunfire with deputies early Saturday morning.

Deputies responded to the area of East Chilco Road near Chilco Lake, north of Hayden, Idaho for a report of trespassers causing a disturbance in the area around midnight Friday night.  Initial information indicates that as deputies were approaching the area the suspect fired one round and the deputies returned fire.  The suspect then gave up without further incident.  No one was injured in the incident.

Kerry Noel Damiano, 22 of Hayden was booked into Kootenai County jail on one count of Aggravated Assault. 

Sheriff's Department procedure dictates that the Idaho State Police were called in to perform the investigation.  Further information regarding the shooting investigation will come from the State Police.

Fortunately, no injuries were reported.

Deputies, fire crews, Columbia Basin Dive Rescue teams and Washington State Park Rangers responded to a call of a person who had gone into the water under Palouse Falls and had not surfaced around 5:30 p.m.
