More than 50 thousand turn out for Bloomsday 2010

SPOKANE, Wash. - Bloomsday 2010 is officially in the history books! First-time Bloomie Peter Kirui wins the elite men's field! Kirui is from Kenya and finished 5th place in the 2010 Paderborner Osterlauf 10k in Germany.
 
 
The women's elite race was expected to come down to the wire between three women; 2-time defending champion Lineth Chepkurui, fellow Kenyan Emily Chebet-Muge, and Ethiopian Mamitu Daska. 
 
By the time they reached Spokane Falls Community College, it was those three far ahead of the rest of the pack.  They would stay close until the ascent up "Doomsday Hill."  That is were Chepkurui took control of the race, storming up the hill and pulling away from her closest competitors. This is Chepkurui's third win in a row.
 
Jordan Bird, from Tucson, Ariz., is the men's elite wheelchair champion, Amanda McGrory, of Champaign, Ill., repeated as elite women's wheelchair champion for the fourth year in a row.

1st...Lineth Chepkurui with a time of 38:10 (a new WORLD RECORD for women's road 12k....beating the old mark by :12 SECONDS!
 
2nd....Mamitu Daska with a time of 38:25 (that beats the old Bloomsday record as well)
 
3rd...Emily Chebet-Muge with a time of 38:50.
