The countdown gets into the single-digits...

Posted: Updated:

Nine days to go…

I remember being at this point with Victor and feeling just ready to throw in the towel.  Well, guess what – I feel that way now, too.  There's something so magical about the experience of pregnancy.  I love feeling the little person in there rolling around.  The daily countdown to the due date…

Speaking of the countdown, one of the really fun things I've found that has made keeping up with friends & family about the pregnancy has been an app I put on my iPhone.  It's called "PregnancyToolsPro".  It not only counts down to my due date, it connects to my twitter and facebook accounts so I can post status updates about how many weeks, days, hours or even minutes I have left!  It also has a diaper calculator, links to sign up for free stuff and the setup to build a phone list so I can send the "he's here!" message in mass when the baby comes.   Great little tool.

One of the big stories of the last few weeks for our family has been Victor's trip to the hospital.  It's never fun when a child is ill, especially when that child is your own.  It's even worse when things go beyond your realm of "I can fix this" and into the "get into the car, we're going to the ER."  It was downright terrifying.

Victor had a mild cold for a while (runny nose, cough) that all of the sudden burst into vomiting and diarrhea.   He couldn't keep anything down all weekend, so we took him to see a Dr.  That doctor diagnosed him with pneumonia and an ear infection and wanted to start treating him with antibiotics for those.  The next day, he still wasn't keeping anything down.  He had another doctor appointment with his regular pediatrician that day, but based on how lethargic he was at that point, we decided to skip the doctor appointment and go straight to the pediatric emergency room.  Good thing we did – he was very dehydrated and hypoglycemic.   After being scared by "possibilities" of greater diseases and problems ("brain mass" even came up at one point), x-rays, a C-T scan and four days in a tiny hospital room, it was concluded that he had a viral stomach bug and ear infection.   Once he kept food down, we went home – he's been doing much better ever since…but I have to admit, I've never been more scared in all my life.

Victor has only ever had one other trip to the ER – about a year ago, he had a fever of 105 that sent me into a major panic.   This time around, I was thinking that I'd be the one in the hospital first – it was an unwelcome surprise to have Victor in there first.  I have another doctor appointment today – hopefully, I'll be in the hospital (for myself) within the next few days!
